If you’re like most people, you probably like to do a little research on that big-ticket item before you reach for your wallet. When purchasing refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers, it’s important to make sure the appliance not only meets your needs but also stands up against daily use. In today’s technologically driven society, there are so many different ways to research home appliance capabilities and durability. To get you started, we’ve put together a list of ways to get the low down.
There’s no shortage of information about anything online. From watching DIY repair videos on YouTube to digging into your ancestry, you can pretty much find anything you’re looking for on the Internet.
• Manufacturer Sites
When it comes to appliance reviews written by previous customers, get the inside scoop by doing a search on almost any manufacturer’s webpage.
For example, if you’re looking into Miele washers and dryers, simply head over to the Miele website, search out the model, and then look for the review tab. Click here to see what we’re talking about. Oftentimes, these reviews come from other homeowners who have had a chance to try out the appliances in question. This is one of the easiest ways to familiarize yourself with an appliance before dropping your cash.
• Public Forums
Another source for good information are forums. Do a quick Google search on the appliance model you’re interested in, and there’s a really good chance you’ll stumble across a thread on a forum. These threads are usually a reliable source of helpful information.
This method is a little more old school than doing an online search, but it can still be just as effective. Once you decide you’re in the market for a new home appliance, start asking your friends, family members, and coworkers what appliance brand they prefer. Just like you, they’ve probably experienced at least one or two different brands of appliances in their homes.
Believe it or not, an appliance salesman can be your biggest source for unbiased information. Most appliance stores offer a wide variety of appliances, so it’s unlikely that your salesman will be more biased about one brand over another. They also spend all their time surrounded by appliances while talking to others about appliances. Before you discredit a brand or model, swing into your favourite home appliances store and speak to an expert.
Of course, one of the best ways to make sure you love your appliances is to take care of the ones you already have. For some good information, take a peek at our previous post: Super Helpful Tips to Extend the Life of Kitchen Appliances.
