Kamloops Appliances: Canadian Made & Loved by Locals

Kamloops Appliances: Canadian Made & Loved by Locals
Before purchasing appliances for your Kamloops home, consider the source first.

It’s a movement that’s beginning to gain some serious traction in many Canadian communities: shop local. You’ve undoubtedly seen this well-known slogan slung around your community in an effort to keep hard-earned local money in local pockets.

Although you may think this applies to local artisan and farmer’s markets, it also applies to locally owned and operated furniture, appliance, and grocery stores, to name a few. Before heading to a franchise retailer for your Kamloops appliances, consider shopping locally first. If shopping local is the name of your game, we’ve compiled a little bit of information to better help you familiarize yourself with Canadian appliances.

This home appliance company delivers over $1 billion in revenue annually, employs hundreds of people, and operates nationwide from it’s head office located in Ontario. Whirlpool Canada LP is also responsible for some of these well-loved best appliances brands:

  • Maytag

A Century of Innovations

Formerly recognized as Inglis Limited before becoming Whirlpool Canada in 1987, the company was founded by John Inglis in Guelph, Ontario in 1859. During this time, the company first manufactured machines for flourmills. It wasn’t until the end of World War II that the company really began to resemble the company we love today.

As the Second World War came to an end, Whirlpool Canada began to introduce house trailers, oil burner pumps, and domestic heaters and stoves to their product lines. This was also the year that saw the introduction of the home laundry products we’ve come to enjoy so much.

Whirlpool Canada, still known as Inglis during this time, had officially become the leading producer of domestic laundry appliances in Canada.

The 80s

This was a really important decade for Whirlpool Canada.

  • In 1985, the microwave oven was launched.
  • In 1986, dishwasher production began.
  • In 1987, energy efficient refrigerators were introduced.

And while all of these products were finding their way into countless homes across the country, Whirlpool Canada was also introducing:

  • The iconic stand mixers
  • Blenders
  • Food processors
  • Hand Mixers
  • Toasters

The 21st Century

In 2002, the company finally shed its prior moniker from Inglis Ltd. to Whirlpool Canada. It also took big steps towards becoming an advocate of corporate social responsibility by:

  • Producing and promoting ENERGY STAR® appliances to Canadians
  • Building a partnership with Habitat for Humanity
  • Providing financial support to the United Way
  • Establishing a successful partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

Why We Love Canadian Companies

When you shop local at an independent retailer, you’ll be pleased to know that your money will stay in the community. Not only will it strengthen both the local community and the country’s economy, you’ll also be doing your part to help keep Canadians employed. When you buy Kamloops appliances that were manufactured in Canada from a locally owned and operated company, you know you’ve done your part to make your community stronger.
