5 Ways to Keep Your Kamloops Appliances Smelling Great

5 Ways to Keep Your Kamloops Appliances Smelling Great
Rinsing your dishes before loading them into your dishwasher are just one of the ways you can keep your Kamloops appliances smelling fresh and clean.

You’ve just finished emptying out the dishwasher, and you just happen to catch a whiff of a weird smell, which is surprising because it just finished cleaning your dishes. Sometimes our kitchen appliances can develop an odour that needs tending to. But don’t worry – a little elbow grease and some preventative maintenance will keep your dishwasher clean and odour-free.

1. Load your dishes the right way.

This may take a little time to get used to, but the benefits will outweigh the effort. Start by rinsing off your dishes before placing them on the racks. This will prevent extra chunks of food from accumulating on the bottom of the dishwasher or in the filter.

2. Scrub your kitchen appliances.

With a cloth and a small amount of dishwashing liquid, open up the dishwasher and clean all the seals. Next wipe out the bottom of the dishwasher, removing any pieces of food you see. You may also want to wipe down the walls as well. Finally, pull out the filter and give it a really good rinse in the sink.

3. Utilize a lemon.

If you’re a plate-rinser from way back and your dishwasher still smells, try doing a citrus cleanse. Cut a lemon in half, place both halves in a bowl on the bottom rack and turn on the dishwasher. The lemons will heat up and deodorize your machine.

4. Try vinegar!

If you don’t have any lemons handy, place a bowl of vinegar on the bottom rack and run your dishwasher like normal. Vinegar is a natural cleansing agent and should do the trick.

Vinegar will also help remove hard water deposits too. If you think hard water deposits may be contributing to the smell, pour two cups of vinegar into the bottom and run the dishwasher on a low or energy-saving cycle.

5. Avoid letting dishes sit.

If your dishwasher isn’t being run once a day, you may want to utilize a rinse and hold cycle. When dirty dishes sit in the racks for extended periods of time, the food on them can start to go bad and give off an unpleasant odour. By rinsing them before loading them or running a quick rinse cycle, you can avoid this.
